About Lucy Coffee House

Lucy Coffee House is an Ethiopia-focused specialty coffee company, roasting and importing the finest green and roasted coffees from our own farm in the renowned Yirgacheffe region. What began as a passion for Ethiopian coffee and culture has now grown into a thriving coffee business — with a retail café in Aurora, Colorado, and global coffee shipments reaching customers around the world.

Our journey started in 2018 when founders Mickias (Micki) and Mehret Alamirew, members of Aurora’s vibrant Ethiopian expat community, launched Lucy Coffee as a roasting operation. Within a year, they invested directly in a farm in Yirgacheffe — a move that ensures ethical sourcing, supports farmers, and guarantees the exceptional quality of our coffee.

Our farm sits on 3.5 lush acres, at altitudes of 2,100 to 2,200 meters, where the cool Ethiopian highlands produce coffee of extraordinary flavor and complexity. With a commitment to sustainability and community empowerment, we’ve invested in equipment, training, and infrastructure to uplift the lives of farmers and their families — especially women — while producing natural, washed, and soon honey-process coffees.

Coffee with Purpose

At Lucy Coffee, we believe that coffee is more than a drink — it is a bridge between cultures, histories, and communities. Through direct trade with our farm, we ensure that farmers are paid fairly, bypassing middlemen and brokers. We also invest in local schools, roads, and community projects — because building a better future for Ethiopian coffee starts at the source.

Our Café: A Cultural Connection

In 2024, Lucy Coffee opened its first café in Aurora, Colorado — a warm, inviting space designed to reflect the rich coffee heritage of Ethiopia. The café’s earthy tones, coffee murals, and natural materials make it a comforting place to relax, gather, and connect.

Guests enjoy a 100% Ethiopian coffee menu alongside fresh Ethiopian dishes such as Chechebsa and Ful, plus sandwiches, salads, and more. The café also serves as a hub for the local community — a space where immigrants and locals can meet, share stories, and celebrate coffee culture.

“I want this to be a connection place for immigrants, and a way to break the barrier between African and American culture,” says founder Micki Alamirew. “Though we all drink coffee, we experience it in different ways — at Lucy, we bring everyone to the table.”
